Default Need help with engine VIN

I have searched Internet and have been able to learn some about my motor but still have question.
My vin# (star)CAMR907789RE(star)
From what I can decipher it is 1994 XLH883, production number 907789, but what does the "RE" signify about this engine?
I called local Harley shop and they were no help, so I have turned to HDForums to help me out.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Ps, do not have frame, looking to install on aftermarket frame such as Buell.

Whats the frame VIN? That will tell you everything.
17 digit VIN on frame. Engine has a partial VIN and the numbering is out of sequence, but you will know if the engine and frame belong together or not.
Frame ID Numbers - 1981 -2000
Example: 1HD1AAK19BY123456

Rog - I have seen the abbreviated engine VIN referenced; such as
1HD1ELK12B2123456 on frame would be ELKB123456 on engine.
But I am confused as to why this engine has "RE" after the production number.

Based on above, original frame number would have looked something like this;
1HD1CAM??R?907789

I am guessing at this point if I am correct.
I can supply a picture if anyone wants to see.

Thanks,
John

Out of my 1994 owners manual
CA=XLH (model designation)
M=883 (engine type)
R=1994 (model year)
907789 (sequential)
The RE ? don't say anything about it
Sorry I couldn't help

I don't feel too bad now, one person says "e is for electric start" and another says "e is for buell east plant"

Anybody else have information?

From 1981 to present the VIN has been a 17 digit code located
on the frame and ABBREVIATED on the engine

mind u its abbreviated on motor

VIN the first 3 digits are the world manufacturer ID like 1hd 5hd 932

the fourth digit is the weight class 1 or 4 or 5

The next two letters are the model designation
CA = XLH

the sixth digit was the engine type
M = 883 Evolution XL, Twin Cam 103

the seventh digit was the INTROCUCTION period
R = 1994

the VIN check digit which could be 0-9 or X,

6numbers.

next letter was the MODEL year R = 1994

the letter after that was the assembly plant
E = Buell East Troy Wisconsin, USA

maybe more clear
