The Best Oil for our Harleys is...

let us recap. The OP asks for opinions as he wants to use Redline. Then you come on with a story that your neighbor blew his new S&S 113 after only 300 miles using Redline. You blame that Redline and would not put it into your lawnmower.
You are asked what oil you & your neighbor are using that will not blow our engines, still waiting for your recommendation.
I sound like "one of them" who does not accept everything I read and will ask for more details to back it up before I do.

My neighbor went back to his old stand by, M1 syn 20w50. I use Castrol Power RS 20W50.

The shop would need to prove that claim to me, if it were my motor.
I seriously doubt that the motor blew because of the oil he put in it.
I have no dog in this fight...I think synthetics are a waste of money. That being said, I don't think they will cause a catastrophic engine failure.

For most syn is a waste. Most dont even ride 5,000 miles in a year and change it twice a year just because. For them it is a waste, any oil will serve them fine. For me and the fact it can be run longer I pretty much end up breaking even cost wise but for me and riding every day it is also about the cranking and holding up to heat.
All I am saying is the redline was so full of metal and was so thin at ambient temp and my being around lots of motors, the oil played some kind of roll in the engine failure. Thats my opinion. The shop flat out blamed the oil. The M1 syn is holding up fine and he aint no daisy sniffer either. I am not even a M1 fan and here I am saying it is better than RL.
