You are asked what oil you & your neighbor are using that will not blow our engines, still waiting for your recommendation.

I sound like "one of them" who does not accept everything I read and will ask for more details to back it up before I do.
I did not blame the oil. I made a statement on what happened to a new motor when it was run for 300 miles and the condition of the motor after 300 miles. The shop blamed the oil.

My neighbor went back to his old stand by, M1 syn 20w50. I use Castrol Power RS 20W50.

The shop would need to prove that claim to me, if it were my motor.
I seriously doubt that the motor blew because of the oil he put in it.

I have no dog in this fight...I think synthetics are a waste of money. That being said, I don't think they will cause a catastrophic engine failure.

For me syn cranks easier at 14F, if the roads are clear I ride. When I get stuck in traffic barely creeping along it holds up to the heat better. One thing I hate is anyone who first switches to it always claim the motor runs cooler, no it dont. On a ride (not around the block) the full operating temp is the same. What I have noticed is it takes a lot longer to get to full operating temp.

For most syn is a waste. Most dont even ride 5,000 miles in a year and change it twice a year just because. For them it is a waste, any oil will serve them fine. For me and the fact it can be run longer I pretty much end up breaking even cost wise but for me and riding every day it is also about the cranking and holding up to heat.

All I am saying is the redline was so full of metal and was so thin at ambient temp and my being around lots of motors, the oil played some kind of roll in the engine failure. Thats my opinion. The shop flat out blamed the oil. The M1 syn is holding up fine and he aint no daisy sniffer either. I am not even a M1 fan and here I am saying it is better than RL.

Well dont know much about red line oil over here but I just changed mine from hd dino to motul 7100 20w50 full synthetic. Seems ok, even seems a tad quieter, took me a bit to get used to it being red though.

Cant believe there is the "best" oil for a Harley. So what is the "best" tire for a Harley?

What about engine oil additives like Z-Max?

I prefer Extra Virgin Olive Oil!
