Default The Best Oil for our Harleys is...

For Engine Oil,

I did some research: for those who want the short answer: it is Redline 20w-50 Synthetic Oil.

Based on the manufacturer's data, this oil contains Molybdenum, at 0.05 %wt.

Compared to Mobil 1 V twin 20w-50 synthetic, which has none, or I cannot find it in their data sheets.

If engine oil was shared with tranny/ wet clutch, Moly would not be good for you. But it is not, therefore moly is not only ok, but helps with your engine wear. ( Molybdenum is said to cause problem with wet clutches)

So, the best oil for engine is synthetic with an additive package that can reduce friction during the start up.

For clutch/ Tranny I use Red Line 57904 (75W90) Synthetic Gear Oil. This one is approved by hdforum gurus in the oil section as well :^)

Have a good weekend, and Happy mother's day if you are a mom and if not...

Oil thread # 1,687,365.

Yes, moly is great for the motor. Moly can be found in Mobil-1 15w-50 automotive synthetic. Harley motors do not need V-Twin oil. V-Twin labeled oils are made specifically for motorcycles with a single oil supply for the motor/primary/tranny.

OJ, Nah, that simply can't be true, I've been using RevTech 25w60 dino oil for about 17,000 miles and it seems to be the best. It makes the engine quieter and the engine doesn't use any of it. The 20w50 Syn3 went through it like soup through a parched camel. A Smoky Yunick saying.

cHarey, I'm havin a little fun.

Ice, that means that in a poll, there would be one vote for each brand of oil.
