Default New 48 Engine Surge

Please HELP! Just broke 1k miles and engine still surges. More noticeable in 1-3 gear. Everything still stock although I've got a set of D&D 2:1 pipes comin & Dynojet PV + Auto Tune. I have the Power Vision & waitin on the Auto Tune (Mid Aug). My mileage has been 50 mi. per gal. I can't believe that but have ck'd it using my gps.

Dlr rode it & said "hey it's new what do ya expect". Couple of friends who've been riding for years said this is NOT right. Take it to another dlr.

Any ideas?

While there could be an issue with the bike, are you sure it is not you who is causing the surging?

The Evo motors like their RPM's a little higher than the Big Twins.

Once you get the tuner on, it should smooth out.

Why wait until mid-August? You have the PV tuner, so install the canned "Improved Stock" MAP for your bike and flash your ECM. With this MAP you should see an instant improvement...if not, there's another issue, like maybe a leak at your intake, bad O² sensor, loose coil wire, etc...

Best wishes on getting it resolved.

This is one of several threads in last couple of weeks with same topic, all new riders, just like myself.
Nothing wrong with the bike, just need to shift up a little later and get used to it. Let us know what the fine tuning does for you.

Only saw a couple of older threads (09-12) for other model bikes so thought I would start a current thread. I ALWAYS make it a point to do some research for info that will answer my question(s) so I don't have to try to reinvent the wheel & take up other folks time & unwanted thread space.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I've noticed it's more noticeable below 3k rpm occasionally cruising downtown in 2nd & 3rd below 3k rpm w/o drawing attention to loud pipes. My town is littered w/ tree huggers 4th & 5th no prob.

No worries Odd. Some forums get their panties in a wad for this issue. Everyone on this forum has been patient & friendly so far w/ newbies.

Thanks mucho for turning me onto that thread. I posted over there some of the things I'm going to try that you guys mentioned and see if I can narrow the problem down w/ the aftermarket parts I'm going to install 1 at a time.
