Default Apes?

Hey guys new to the forum. Picked up a 2005 1200 sporty this spring already have 4500 miles on it in 2 months My buddy has a fat boy with apes and it's really comfy I like it. What would you guys recommend? I have another buddy with a 883 and 8" apes which are perfect. I'm just not sure if I should go chrome or black? What's your input.

Zombie Performance has the best quality and variety you will find in my opinion. I like my narrow apes about 10". Mine are knurled, dimpled and powder coated.

I found the site do you have a pic of your bike you could post? And what did you have to do about the wiring and cables? Thanks in advance man!

If you do 8" bars all you need to replace is the brake line. 38"-40" long would be perfect. The stock clutch cable, stock throttle/idle cables, and all the stock wiring to the hand controls will work at that height. If you decide to go higher than that you'll need a new clutch cable and wiring to hand controls. The stock throttle and idle cables will reach all the way up to 12" bars.

I just put a pair of 12" Burly (gloss black) bars on which required all new cables. It's SO much nicer.

Some Harley shops have a fitting room, this is the best way to find out what fits you best. Between the seat, if you have mid or forward controls, how tall you are all goes into the equation. Also, regarding color...I did black as I'm in the process of blacking out my MC. Go for the look you want man...

I'm 5'10" and I just put 16" chrome apes and the Burly 16" cable kit on my XL1200L. I probably could have used a 14" kit because Burly 16 kit runs very long. I will add that I also have a sundowner deep bucket seat which raises me up an inch or two. I also have forward controls. Hope this info helps.
