Default Rear axle nut after side licence plate holder.

Just after some advice, I have fitted a dk customs side licence plate holder to my sporty iron and noticed the other day while cleaning it that the axle bolt thread does not come all the way through the axle nut but still plenty on the thread. This is because the plate holder is about 6mm thick plus I used the original axle nut washer but the nut cant go anywhere as it is touching the e clip that stops the nut from coming off.
To be honest it has been like that for nearly a year but just curious if any of you that have fitted an axle mounted side plate holder still used the large washer or put the nut against bracket??
Cheers

You should drop the washer. That only serves to normalize friction when tightening the nut against the swingarm. With the plate holder there it takes the place.

You should always have 2-3 threads extending beyond the nut threads or you run the real risk of backing off the nut.

You can loosen it. If your axle adjusters are not messed with you shouldn't have any movement. Never hurts to check though since it is real quick.

I installed a side mount plate holder from Road6, was told to leave the washer on. So, as advised by Road6, I faced just enough off the axle nut to give clearance. No threads were removed when I faced the nut, just the taper leading to the threads. Gave just enough room....

Our brackets are designed to be used without the axle nut.

Boom! Straight from the source.
But I just had to add that clarification, Natalie. I'm assuming that's what you meant.

Damn it Scuba, I was waiting to see how many people bitched next week when their axle backed out at 80 MPH on the slab.

Charlie, to you it's Jeremy. From time to time I will take sadistic pleasure in newbies, but I just couldn't let that one go.

It would be almost as entertaining as sitting in the lawn chair on 4th of July weekend at my local boat ramp watching the weekend warriors attempt to back their boats in.
