The Dark Side For those members running "Car Tires" on their scoots. This is for their discussion only and not a place for "non dark siders" to mouth off about their negative opinions of this idea!

Default I missed the obvious sticky?

hey guys and gals, im a rider...a fairly new to the hd scene rider, mostly hondas - a sporty back in 92..but im curious about what you are calling the dark side. Id love to read someones explanation of it, the good, bad, the ins and outs - why is it better? why do people get weird about it? the history? stuff like that. im genuinly curious. Id like to be the first sportster 1200 rider to go to the dark side. it seems to me like its mainly big lumbering cruisers? dont know!

thanks!

Dark Side: D-ark, S-ide. The practice of using a automobile tire on a motorcycle rim. Side effects may be ongoing, baseless warnings of instant death from other riders who haven't experienced it themselves.
Dark Side mechanics: Tire must be same circumference of the rim it is mounted on and must fit within the constraints of the wheel well of the motorcycle. Variances of the height of the tire will offset speedometer.

thanks, makes sense, and its about what I thought, curious though, what is it about the car tires that make it desirable? ride quality, or just a cool custom option that sets you apart from the pack?

car tires are cheaper, last way longer, and in many cases offer better traction especially in the wet. I don't think anyone is doing it to look cool, but I could be wrong.
