Default Visiting the Sunshine state.

Me and the OL (U.S. citizen) arrive next weekend to visit the OL's Mom. We are in Florida for 10 days. Based in Ft Lauderdale area.

Already have a 24 hour quick trip to Daytona during bike week planned, Bar and Stand recommendations please.

heading to the Keys for a night or two as well.
The OL has booked a gator farm and everglades tour for me.
Looking forward to visiting a gun range or 3 while there.

Will be visiting relatives in Sarasota and Orlando as well.
Any recomendations for sights to see or visit in or near Ft Lauderdale?

Default Best Keys ride… EVER.

I grew up in Lauderdale, still visit there occasionally but wouldn’t live there now if it was free. Been visiting the Keys since the ‘60’s. The best “ Keys ride “ I’ve ever had happens when I get to Key Largo just before dawn and ride the Key’s Hwy as the sun is coming up.
For a look at “ Old Florida “ run through the glades on the Tamiami Trail ( Hwy 41 ). Run that one way, the grab Alligator Alley ( I-75 )to get back. While you’re in Lauderdale, weekend ride out to Cafe 27 ( on the Western edge of the county on Hwy 27 )will be a fun day. Good eats, live music, lottsa bikes.
Enjoy your visit..!

Nice - I second the Keys recommendation above re: the ride in / out / sunrise on the overseas highway is epic.

Daytona offers different strokes for different folks. Lots of good detail here in this thread: Daytona 2026

Enjoy your visit!

Just got back. Had 2 weeks in FL.

Got down to Key Largo, Got the obligatory Key Lime pie from Mrs Macs, got the requisite Hangover from Snooks Bayside.

Up to Orlando (Longwood) to visit the OL's cuz, who's husband is a Kentucky boy with an extremely unhealthy interest in Bourbon, he took it upon himself to educate me in things Bourbon. He also did an 11 hour "low n slow" brisket in his Smoker BBQ, best Ive ever had.

Then to Sarasota, met up with the Bro in Law then to Daytona for the start of Bike week.... not sure if I missed something or my expectations were too high. Had a good time but I was expecting something much bigger.
Coming back from Sarasota after Daytona we went via Naples then Route 41, Stopped at SkunkApe Headquarters, then back on our tracks a little to Everglades City and The Wild Man pizzaria (Very good pizza)!!

Back to Ft Lauderdale to spend time with the OL's Mom. Some Swimming Pool time, several visits to Dania Beach for dinner, Maxed my CC out at West Marine, Sailorman, and Advance Auto parts buying tools and Man toys. Checked luggage cost me an extra 100 bucks but woth it!

Went for an AIrboat tour (Sawgrass Airboat tours) in the everglades, can recomend!! Saw Gators and other cool wildlife.

Did loads of other fun stuff, Great trip all round.
