My solution to mounting flags on a bike with a solo seat
I love how bikes look in an escort line with flags mounted on them. Many bikes have either racks on the back, a sissy bar, or some means to mount a flag pole. My bike does not.
My Rocker had no obvious place to mount flags, so I had to make my own system. It takes me less than 60 seconds to set it up or break it down.
I decided to utilize the rear foot pegs. My flags are 2 1/2' X 4'.
Parts list:
2 pcs of PVC pipe - 48" long by 1 1/4"ID
4 pcs of 1/4"-20 eye bolts
4 pcs of 1/4"-20 stainless acorn nuts
2 pcs of 3/8"-16 eye bolts
2 pcs of 3/8"-16 stainless acorn nuts
2 pcs quick release carabiner clip (holds the strap to the 3/8" eye bolt)
4 split key rings
1 roll of 1" white duct tape
1 roll of 1" red duct tape
1 roll of 1 1/2" blue duct tape
1 set of cheap tie down straps in blue
2 each 2 1/2" X 4' American flags of good quality.
I hope from the pictures you can figure out the step by step. If not, let me know and I will go into more detail.
My rear foot pegs
I make sure the sewn end of the strap that has the loop will go on the shaft of the foot peg. I basically slide it on as I lower my flag pole onto the foot peg. Once it is in place I just pull the strap tight and tie the loose end in a knot. This keeps the flag pole from trying to rise off of the foot peg when going down the road.
This should give you the idea. I tied the knot much tighter of course.
This is the 3/8" eye bolt with the acorn nut. It's just long enough to poke through the PVC pipe. The tie down hook goes through the eye bolt with the quick release carabiner clip.
I joined two pieces with the hooks. This goes across my seat and keeps my two flag poles from splaying outward. The weight of the flag and pole would make the foot peg rotate downward. Not good! I sit on the strap and can't even tell it's across the seat. (No comments!!)
I just pull it snug and the poles don't move at all.
This is the 1/4"-20 eye bolt. If you look closely you can see the split key ring. It goes through the grommet of the flag and also through the eye bolt.
Here is the red and white duct tape. My dad used to call it 90 mile an hour tape. So far, so good!
About the top foot is in blue duct tape. I also marked the inside of the PVC pipe so I know which is R and which is L.
When I'm not flying the flags, I roll them up and put a bungee on them.
Here is the whole kit.
Ready to roll.
