"14 or 16" wild ones apes. Your oppinon

I just spent the last 6 months debating this for my road glide. I'm 6'7" and was originally looking at Yaffe 12" monkey bars. Then 14" flying apes. Finally descided on 16" Buky assaults. I'm so glad I did the 16". I test fit them the other day and they are perfect!!! I use a backrest and know my arms are straight out with my back firmly in the backrest. Before I was straight armed but reaching down( hunched over) and major pain in neck. I can't wait til spring so I can get out on the road!!! So my suggestion for what it's worth is go bigger then you originally thought you want.

Secondly, gaining ergonomic comfort on your bike requires patience and time, and sitting on a lot of bikes, in showrooms, parking lots and driveways.
For proper fitment, sit on the bike in a comfortable, upright, position. The bar grips should position your wrists above your elbows, but below your shoulders - and don't forget to take into account the seat and the bike frame, since those variables may also affect the amount of height and pullback needed.
Replacing handlebars costs time AND money, so be smart, and do it right the first time!
Good luck, brother.

16 # Apes
Hey guys, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a set of apes from Wild ones. I'm 6 ft 1" and want to be comfortable with my hands just above my shoulder. I've never tried on a set of apes so don't know how they fit. Any pictures of these sizes and your thoughts would be appreciated.
I am 6' even and have the 16# Apes on my 2013 Road King. LOVE them, very comfortable even on long runs (1000 Km in a single day) without any discomfort. Love the look and does not have any negative effect with handling. Of course I am an "easy rider" and don't try to "scratch" through the bends..... still have no problem keeping up at a very decent pace. Hope that helps....

My experience has been:
6-4 and up 18"
6-0 to 6-4 16"
5-8 to 6-0 14"
5-4 to 5-8 12"
Obviously there are exceptions based on seat height, pull back, and unusual body types (long or short torso). I am 6' and have 17.5 Flying Apes and 18" Wild 1 Apes. Both are slightly above my shoulders. My son who is 6-4 finds the 18" Wild One Apes perfect. SJ Ron

Editorial Comment:
This is a great illustration of how to measure ape hangers for ideal ergonomics!
Look at the rider on the left. His wrists are below his elbows. This is how I looked with the stock bars on my 2011 Street Glide. It's not a very comfortable riding position, over time, and can actually make low speed maneuvers dangerous, due to sudden extended reaches and shifts in body position.
Now, look at the rider on the right. His wrists are above his elbows AND below his shoulders - the ideal ergonomic rider position! No issues there.

You should be okay with 18s (I am only 6' and ride the bike fine and my bike is lowered with a thin Le Pera seat). The grips should be around your shoulder height. The 18s are wide (40" from tip to tip) which took a few rides to get used to on tight corners. SJ Ron
