Default Crappy license plate holder?

Ok so I went to install my plate on my new to me bike....this thing is a piece of garbage....it two of the tiniest screws holding the bottom of the plate bracket.....if you don't tighten it enough, of course it won't hold the plate.....and if I tighten it more, the top of the plate juts out and the bracket comes off....what's up with this thing.....I'm guessing this is why a lot of people change out their license plate holder......

Is this a common problem...bike in question is a 12 road king.....I don't wanna spend a lot on a new holder but any cheap fixes would be appreciated....I tried searching but everything was about changing the holder to a lay down plate etc....ryan

I use a RK plate mount on my FLHTC- works OK.

If you are having trouble with the machine screws which hold the plate to the mount, just replace them....I also have $5 license plate frame ( autozone)

This is the style plate I have...the screws don't seem to be the problem...they're not stripped and they go in all the way...the problem is it seems so loose I feel like anything over about ten miles an hour is gonna rip the bracket off and my plate with it....ryan

Pull it off and see what hardware you can swap to make it better...

that was added by the previous owner, the road king cop version has the plate mounted on the radio box carrier ( it's like a tour pak mount).

so you are dealing with whatever was done to it by the previous owner.

mine is stock for the FLHR = the std road king

the FLHRC uses a different plate mount.

your concern will be the holes in the fender where your plate mount is- I don;t know if someone drilled them or if they were there on your bike

yes #4 i mentioned that.

you are dealing with owner added accessories.

hopefully the rest of the stuff he did is of better quality...

Would the bracket from softbrake be the cheapest option at 40 bucks to get something different....I wouldn't even mind the plate in the same place but something is obviously wrong with the one I got....ryan
