Default What brake fluid

I've got a 97 FLH, which, I'm upgrading to the 2007 front brakes.
My question is what brake fluid was used from the factory in 07?
The cap says DOT 4, but I was of the impression that DOT 5 was stock from the factory.
Could someone let me know?

Thanks

I think dot 4 started with the Brembro brakes in 2008 and it was dot 5 before that.

These are not the Brembos.

You will be able to tell the dot 5 over the dot 4. Dot 5 is purple in color vs dot 4 is yellow/brown. See what comes out of the calipers before you mount them.

Do you have the entire brake system off the 2007? Master cylinder and calipers?

If any part of your brake system used Dot 4, you'll need to replace that if you move to Dot 5. These brake fluids do not mix at all.

HD uses Dot 4 in their productions bikes today. My '07 Electra Glide used Dot 4 as well.

Dot5 and abs do not get along well. Otherwise, dot5 will be fine. Don't mix them.

Ok, seems like it's DOT 4.

Thanks.

Dot 4 started in 2005. I just replaced mine with a pair of 2014 Brembos. I pushed the piston all the way in to expel the excess dot 4, flushed them with denatured alcohol and blew them out with air. Mounted and bled them with dot 5. all is good. Mine is a 2002.What brake fluid-img_20141001_151903_066.jpg

Please do me a favor and repost in a month how your brake system is doing with that Dot 5
