Default clutch adjustment question

Hi all, 2000 flhtpi....50000 miles how do you loosen the lock nut on the shaft? I have the manual but it says nothing about that.I've loosened the cable and everything but i cant get the locknut loose, the motor turns over, even in first gear,...do I need to get a "locking" tool or something???

Thanks in advance, Mike

Just give the ratchet a sharp rap with the palm of your hand. Should break free easily.

There's a Stickie on the forum about "Clutch adjustment by the Book". Probably on You-Tube also.

Nope, it's not. But you might try putting the bike in gear to break the nut loose.

Once you get the adjustment made, don't over tighten the nut. Hopefully the videos or the stickies will give the tightening torque. It is pretty light, something like 120 INCH pounds, though I always check my manual as I don't trust my memory. Sounds like somebody waay over did it the last time and that plate will strip if the nut is over tightened.

The same rap on the wrench with the palm of my hand that breaks it loose,is the same rap with my hand that I torque it back down with.[opposite direction of course]

Rear wheel on the floor, bike in gear, quick rap of the wrench. If needed, have a lovely assistant hold the rear brake for you. No problem.
As mentioned, great you tube videos on the whole deal...
