Bingo! When out touring I ride as far/hard as I want (somewhere between 0 and 700), stop and make a tentative plan for the next day. Most longer trips end up averaging around 200 a day. There are lots of roses to smell out there... I really don't like having planned stops or schedules on vacation.

I did Run For The Wall in 2012, when I was 57 years old. We had to ride to California to ride the run from the beginning. There were 2 of us, riding solo on fully faired baggers, all interstate.

We did 700+ miles a day for the first 3 days; the last day into CA was something less. I don't know we could have done that with passengers. If it were me, & I was identifying "must be at" destinations, I wouldn't plan for more than 500 miles - & I'd have a backup plan for as little as 250. If I had, say 3 weeks to go wherever, I wouldn't plan for mileage in excess of 250 & would allow time to see the sights.

Thanks for all your thoughts.... Guess I will plan for 300 to 400 a day, nice and easy.

I've done that ride a couple of times, Once I hit the Highway and Ran down to to Homestead then to Key West. The other I just hugged the coast running 1 and A1A. Took my time and checked stuff out, I really enjoyed the trip a lot more. I had a certain amount of time in Florida, I didn't want to waste any of it racing to get somewhere else.

The wife and I usually do around 300 a day. We don't rush in the morning and we're usually off the bike around 5-6 at night to check in the hotel, get dinner and have a drink. We never get close to even 500 a day.
But then again, when we do a motorcycle trip, we never get on the expressway. We usually try to go off the beaten path.

Enjoy the ride, don't push hard so you get tired (because then you are endangering yourselves), don't ride early morning (dawn) and don't ride evening and night because of the animals. Hit a bear, deer or moose at highway speed you lose. I have had some very close calls and know others who did not have a good day. Just my thoughts from riding mostly in Canada.

A lot of animals around in some areas. I don't know anything about North Carolina / Florida and that vicinity though.

Having had a bad back all my life I think it's safe to say that your body will tell you how long you'll be able to sit in the saddle each day.

I've ridden NC to central FL in a single day several times now and it's been all good. Recently did a NC to CA trip last summer with a couple buddies and averaged 600 mile days. Been a great trip for all of use. A comfy seat is always good, but be aware of hydration and windburn/sunburn.

When I set up trips for a group, I plan 250-275 miles per day. When I set up a trip with a few friends, I plan 350. Sturgis last year was between 330-370 except one day 650. My general rule is to be off the road between 3 and 4 most days.
By myself, 400-450 days are easy and that is steady , but not hurried and decent stops for photo ops,etc

Get to bed early and rise early, then stop for the day early! I've done umpteen hundred miles in a day when solo and younger, but with Mrs B on board these days we pace ourselves, certainly wouldn't look to do more than 400 and then not day after day.

Especially 2-up the most significant thing we have done to increase comfort and saddle time is Ohlins shocks. Several days in the saddle takes it out of us, especially our passenger, but those shocks have significantly improved the quality of our riding life.
