I have the standard 944 my weight was 245 and my setting was 2.5 full turns...that gave me 1 inch sag...now weight 210 and will have to adjust all over and probably start out at 1 full turn and readjust as needed.

Thumbs up

you get it. If you get a chance measure SAG before changing to see how it changed, should be less than an inch now.

Properly set SAG to compensate for overall weight is how you set preload! That is assuming the correct spring is installed. By your own math you are 30lbs less yet you are suggesting that he set 'the lines' to where you have found comfort.
Actually if you understood what the 944 shocks are, they are factory preset with an inch of sag. The preload is the only adjustment on the shock. There is no spring swapping or valve adjustment. It's a 13 inch shock with the ride height of a 12 inch shock. It has an inch of up travel and 2.17 inch of down travel. Progressive says to set your sag at 1 inch from full droop. You have to jack the bike up till the shocks are at full droop. Measure. Then let the bike down and set the sag. I'm not gonna get into a pissing contest about it. Just think it's pretty rude to start out a post with "I don't give a rat's *** blah blah blah". If you don't wanna help the guy with his specific problem then don't contribute. If your tired of reading shock threads, then skip over them.

why don't you have a look at the Progressive web site for ordering a 944 shock. you will see a choice of Standard or Heavy duty spring available. Of course if you had any idea why they would offer two springs you would be that much closer to understanding SAG. one inch preset from the factory does not mean you leave it there, one size does not fit all. The different springs available allow a greater range of total weight in order to get the SAG set at one inch without being too stiff or too weak. Many have ordered the HD spring and wondered why it rides like a tank, others the standard and bottom out a lot. In reading all these threads on "in this case shocks" I am pissed at the misinformation people like you spread.

I just got off the phone with Progressive. Tech said the shocks can be ran either way, but on the 14 and 15's they have to have the adjusters down.

About preload, tech said that the standard duty spring is for riders under 250 lbs that don't ride 2 up more than 50% of the time. The HD springs are for riders over 250 or 2 up more than 50% of the time.

To set the sag he said with the bike loaded with rider and passenger the shock should measure 11.5 inches from eye to eye. Progressive recommends 3/4 inch of sag.

OP you need more preload for 2 up riding. Like I said before, try to get some miles on them too. They'll start to ride better.

Hi builligan,
Thank you for the info - appreciated..

As you can see from my log-in i am in the UK so its hard to talk to many riders over here who change stuff. ( most people keep it standard as getting non HD parts is hard as the import duty is a killer)

Before buying the 944,s i did call progresive and they rightly said that the standard springs were the ones i needed as i only ride 2up 10% of the time.

I did call them directly after install ( not long ago) and they said do the sag 3/4" from the bike on the jiffy stand and not fully decompressed on a jack.
I will try the 11.5" setting like you suggest.

Thanks again.

I have 944, couldn't really tell the difference until I set them up correctly. There is a good video online how to do it correctly. Makes all the difference in the world.

Do you happen to have a link for the video? Thanks.
