Default Question about dealership flashing

I am thinking about getting some Rinehart Slip ons and a new air cleaner. I called the dealership to see how much the computer flash would be and they are saying they would have to do a full tune on it for $700+. Right now I'm really just wanting some better sound from the bike, are you not able to just put slip ons and get a quick flash?

I understand this probably sounds like a stupid question, but I'm genuinely confused now. I was planning on doing a full stage 1 set up but I'm going to save the money and just do part of it now.

If you're only doing slip-ons, you dont need a tune or a flash from the dealer.

Regardless, never get the dealer flash, it isnt worth the money. There are other tuning options for similar money that are better and allow you to do future upgrades without additional money spent for a tune or flashes, etc.

I would also never let a dealer tune my bike, 99.5% of them suck at it. For less money (close to 1/2) I'd get something like a Power Vision from Fuel Moto, they will load a map on it for you which is the result of a tune they've done with your mods.

In fact I believe you can get the whole Stage 1 setup (Rineharts, header pipes, air cleaner and the PV from FM for a discount, much less money than you'd pay at a dealer, if you're handy enough to install it yourself which is pretty simple.

Yea I'm just trying to stay away from the $1600 it would cost right now. Think it would be beneficial to just get the slip ons and a tuner at this point?

If you have the stock A/C and really only want more noise, just put slip-ons on it and forget the tuner and high flow A/C.

This works fine as long as you confirm the bike still runs good and you don't have a bunch of decel pop (running excessively lean).

Buy slip-ons online and put them on yourself. Don't have the dealer do it for their price. That's just expensive.

Later, if you want more performance, get an A/C and a PCV, FP3 or similar.

See thats the thing, I would rather just do the slip ons and wait on everything else or add it as I get more cash. From reading some thins around here it seems like people act like you cant just add the Rineharts with out issues until you get a tune or something like that.

They are offering good advice; however, many, many people run slip-ons alone without any problems. The restrictive stock A/C will ensure the bike still runs ok. The trick is not to do both A/C and slip-ons without a tuner.

When you get the money, get a tuner. The bike will only run better - and cooler.

As long as I know I can get buy with just the pipes for now, then I'm good.

Yes, absolutely. Rineharts sound great. Better with a better head pipe, but an improvement for sure.

So I'd say just get the Rineharts from Directharleyparts.com or kutterharleyonline.com for a good price, then if you want to do future mods to your exhaust/intake, talk to Fuel Moto.
