Default Another Ape install

I have a 2013 Rk. Completely stock except for the dealer installed Stage 1 & Vance and Hines Monster Rounds with X-Pipe installed at time of purchase.

So I go to the dealer yesterday and order LA Choppers 16" Twin Peaks, the cable and wire extension kit, and the extended TBW assembly.

The entire time I was ordering my parts, the guy at the parts counter, service manager, & 1 of the techs spent the entire time trying to tell me I wouldn't be able to do it myself, & that the dealership should do it. I just spent $600+ and the entire 45 mins I was there I was told that I was going to screw it up. WTF???

I do my own service and am somewhat handy. A buddy of mine is going to help me. He's way more mechanically inclined than myself. But they talked to me like I was going to screw the whole job up, and I shouldn't be doing it.

I just needed to vent. It really rubbed me the wrong way. I will prob start in a week or 2. Will post some pics when it is all done.

Thanks for listening & Happy New Year everybody.

And you cancelled your order from that dealer and ordered somewhere else then right??? Not gonna lie, Ive got a buddy that's a Harley tech and he helped me do my apes... It was a huge PITA but doable if I had to by myself... I'm sure they was trying to scare you into letting them install them because that's a pretty labor intensive job $$$$$

I did my ape install. It was not bad. I did give up on the wiring though, and had a local indy do that. The rest of it was just common sense wrenching. If you've got competent help, that will make the job even easier.

I ended up buying them there like an idiot. I really should have walked out but I really want to get started.

I did apes with another friend on his bike a few years ago. Took a while but we got it done.

The bars are gonna look sweet on your King. Those are my next upgrade.

Buddy did his with the 14". Took awhile but said you just have to be patient. Hardest part was one of the connectors was a bit of work getting through the bend in the bars, as well as soldering the extensions and then shrink tubing took awhile.

I put the Twin Peaks on my RKC. They look great. Wiring internally was a PITA with the sharp bends.

Hope you feel better. I did my own swap on a SG... it is a PITA... But you can't put a price on the satisfaction value of doing something yourself. Now, if I had to charge myself for the time it took? LOL. I did have to tear down the bike twice to get the bars just right. Hope you are happy. Ride often. Be safe.

I just put twin peaks 14" on my 13 flhx...it's easier if you take the outside sheeting off the wires.there is a video on you tube.i had three pins break and had to get some more.one of the techs kept telling me I didn't know what I was doing ..I told him neither did he if he was talking to me that way..lol..it's not bad.take your time, take pics of connectors, top and bottom.also write the colors down and wh er e they went in connector.it pays off..
