Worthless Fuel Gauge....

RE: Worthless Fuel Gauge....
Mine shows 1/2 tank when there's only a gallon left. Thank God for the multiple trip odometer! I start looking when I get to 160 miles. That gives me a cushion. I don't buy gas from the closest station.. I try to stay with the same brand (NOT Exxon!!) to avoid mixing additives.

So far, my RKC is dead nuts, when it's on the end of the red band, I have anywhere from .4-.6 gals left. My fuel light has been late coming on a couple times now, supposed to come on with ABOUT a gallon left. Last night it came on with .5 gallon. [:@]BUT, as most of you do, I use the B tripmeter and reset everytime I fill, better have a station within sight if I see 200 miles!

Mine does not work worth a flip either and I don’t think the dealers will never be able to fix them. The reason appears to be that the float works on a linier basis and the tank is asymmetrical, unlike an automobile. It seems that the fuel gauge needs to be tied into the onboard computer to correct for the tank’s geometry.

mine works well. at least as accurate as any Ford or Chevy fuel gauge. if fact I think it tells me I have less fuel than I really have. which is a better option to the other end. Iv've run 20 miles after the fuel light came on and still filled up with only 4.2 gallons.
I happy and please with mine. I do however alway rely on the trip meter. Until now never had a bike with a fuel gauge, so using the trip meter was/is habit and common sense.

I hate to say this, but working at a Harley dealership, I knew that the fuel gauge was useless beforeI even bought my new RK. I switched it out for the six shooter LED gauge, which works much better (plus it doesn't fill up with condensation like the stock one does, everytime it rains)

The fuel guage is only a small reference. I go by the odometer. You can take it back, and take it back, and so on...Eventually they might get it close. I know...$20+kAND IT SHOULD WORK. But just how much time to you want to spend in the dealership? I ride everyday and average about 500 miles a week. I would rater pay attention to the miles than the dealers shop schedule.
