SAE 50
The sevice manual states that if your ambient temperature does not go below 60 you should or could use SAE 50 oil. Has anyone in the hot climates used this oil. Im thinking Florida for the next few months may be ideal and quiet down the top end of the motor as well. any thoughts?
20W-50 will give you exactly the samehigh-temperature protection as straight 50 weight, with higher oil flow during cold starts. (If there is any such thing in Florida this time of year!) In my view, there is no reason to use straight 50W for modern engines.
IMO SAE 50 is just too Damn hard on the motor, it has to work so hard to push it through the lifters, push rods etc.Maybe if the oil was 100 degrees when you cranked the motor up (lived in the desert)but that stuff is just too thick. Would do more harm than good on start ups. Just my thoughts.
