Waypoint names change to coordinates
I did a little more poking around this morning looking at this. Keep in mind that I use Basecamp, but you can probably apply this info to figuring it out for your application. Also note that I said "little" (yes, that's what she said, too...), so this isn't in-depth or all-encompassing.
When I created a waypoint in BC (Basecamp), and used the export function to the flash drive, then imported it into the Boom, I found the following info path:
In BC, under waypoint properties, there is a field (tab) called "Notes". This translates to a field called "Desc" (description) in the .gpx file. That is the field that displays on the boom waypoint properties that all of you are finding coordinates.
<desc>
desc: Veterans Club
868 Main St
Sturgis, South Dakota, 57785, United States
605-347-4682
</desc>
note: I added the "desc:" manually to find the field that was being displayed.
Let me know if this helps.

It does not explain why SOMETIMES the waypoint info is shown correctly for me and sometimes it does not.
But again, you've given me a HUGE clue here on how to resolve this. Any maybe I end up moving away from Tyre.
Thanks !
I've seen in Basecamp that the waypoint properties will be different depending on which menu you use to create the waypoint...

I whipped up a quick route with a few waypoints, imported it, took a ride, and took some pictures.
Here is a link to a slideshow of what I experienced. Its only 2 minutes long, shows the GPX file, the screen behavior, and some comments I added.
(note that viewing in 'full screen' might chop off some of my comments/sub-titles throughout)
I'd welcome any suggestions/comments/comparison to how this works for you.
Note: I am still pursuing the 'desc' angle, but wanted to show how what I have kinda/sorta works a little bit ........... sometimes.

What I have noticed is that if you want to skip a waypoint prior to moving on an active route the names show up (almost all the time), but if you ARE moving, and especially if you have "passed" the waypoint in question you get the Lat/Long description.
For those using GPX files and waypoints successfully *:
1) Does your show part of the street address as a prefix to the actual waypoint name, when displayed in the lower GPS banner (if you are using the banner to display 'next nav direction') ?
2) Could you attach a small GPX file ? I'd like to see whats different.
Thanks.
* Successfully = waypoints always displayed AND show up in 'skip waypoints' screen.

I don't recall ever having this issue and I frequently skip waypoints. I switched from Tyre to https://www.myrouteapp.com/routelab which I believe is related to Tyre somehow. I have been exporting .gpx 1.1 files (newer one).
Very interesting ............. I created basically the same route via 'my route app' and I noticed there were 3 GPX output options:
- gpx 1.0 (Tyre has this format)
- gpx 1.1 (Tyre has this format, too)
- gpx 1.1 for Harley Davidson (as you might have guessed , Tyre does NOT produce this format)
Guess which one had gpx tags for 'desc' (mentioned as an important field in a prior post) ? Yep, JUST the gpx 1.1 for HD format.
I will try that gpx route and report back. I may have just found my new routing application !!!

OK, after a couple test runs, I'm happy/unhappy to report it only kinda works. Let me explain.
I removed all routes from my Boom.
I removed all gpx files from my flash drive.
I created 2 routes (lets call them R1 and R2) with myroutapp and exported to a gpx file using the 'gpx 1.1 for HD' format onto my flash drive. (Yes the 'desc' fields existed for each waypoint in both routes.)
I imported them into Boom.
Later I started the bike (letting the Boom fully initialize to the Accept screen before hitting the starter).
I selected R1 ........... and skip waypoints showed lat/lon (frown) so I stopped R1.
Next I tried R2 ........ and skip waypoints showed the waypoint names (woohoo). Hmmm, why did R2 work but R1 did not ? So I stopped R2 and then started R1 ....... guess what ? The waypoint names were displayed properly for R1 when using skip waypoint (woohoo, kinda).
It almost seems like the first route does display properly, but after that it works. I've seen this pattern yesterday and today. I'll try it again later today. But assuming this only happens to me, this is really weird. Or am I doing something wrong ? Its as if there is some initialization issue that gets resolved after the first route is used. I guess my work around is to always start a route, stop it, then start it again.
Is this happening to anyone else ?
I'm going to attach 2 gpx files (had to rename to txt to be able to import into forum - just rename back to .gpx) that I would invite anyone curious to try. Obviously you dont need to actually FOLLOW my routes ..... just start them, go for a ride anywhere, and try skipping waypoints. I'd be VERY interested in hearing how it works for YOU.
Thanks.
