Default Primary seal repair + 34T trans sprocket and new belt... QUESTIONS

Need to pull the primary so I can repair an oil leak, not exactly sure where it is, or what seals could be involved. I thought my primary outer gasket was leaking, however, I am pretty sure it is not the outer primary gasket. I changed the gasket, and without any fluid in the primary, I could see an oil leak in the same spot under the bike.

1. I'm thinking it's the trans seal, but I'm not sure. Looked through the manual and could not tell if I can replace the seal when the primary is removed.

2. Also thinking I will change the belt, because it has a hole from a rock in it.

3. And, I would like to change to a 34T transmission sprocket to drop the revs at cruise. I have read that I can still use the stock 139T belt - just was hoping to confirm from those that have done this.

4. What else should I consider doing while I have the primary off?

Thanks for helping!

Did you check to see if it is the seal around the gear shifter?
Since you will have the primary off change it anyway if it's not leaking (easy fix). Also might think about changing the inner primary bearing since your gonna be in there. Good time to look over the compensator and check your primary chain tension shoe for wear.

See if this gives you any help man.

Either mainshaft or shifter shaft seal, my money's on the mainshaft.
You'll need a special socket removing the transmission sprocket. No experience with a 34T.
Replace the bearing race, could be a bear pulling it. Lots of folks swear by the S&S tapered race, zero walking.
Good luck.

For few extra bucks,go to the newer 1-1/8 belt and rear pulley so you can fit a 150 rear tire, you might also want to consider the 2002+ swing arm and ditching the cleveblocks-be sure to check your arm in the axle/adjuster area for cracks while its apart.

Take that with a handful of salt! I went the other way recently and swapped to a 30T pulley and have read that also can be done while still using the stock belt. Not on my bike! I had to buy a new shorter one. Wait until you have your bike apart and can offer your belt up, but do that with your damaged belt before buying a new one!

Going to try a 34T trans sprocket and was hoping to see if there was an alternate belt if my 139T doesn't fit.

Anyone have an alternate belt size/part number?
