Replacement Wheels for '10 Classic
#11
I just replaced the stock wheels on my 2009 FLHTCU with the Harley chrome impeller wheels. My stock wheels were the same as Keith's but not as nice. 😉
Buying online I was able to save quite a bit of $$$ off of MSRP. I did end up buying the installation kits and paying for labor to mount the new tires, balancing, etc. I stayed with the stock wheel size front and rear.
If interested, I can post a couple of pics when I pick my bike up from winter storage on Saturday morning.

I'm still planning on running wide whitewalls with a new wheel setup, I like the look. Where did you buy online? I'd likely go the same route as you with installation kit (depending on what I can salvage from my factory spoked wheels) and having my local indy do the tire/wheel install.
Thanks guys.

I gathered part numbers from Harley's web site and then searched for the best price online. I ended up buying from Surdyke as they advertised free shipping, but that had a weight limit so I had to pay another $25 for shipping. I think the total was about $1050 for the pair.
As for tires, I opted to eliminate the narrow white wall that my bike came with and went with Metzler ME888 Ultra front and rear. Bought those online as well.
Since my bike was in storage for the winter, I took the wheels and tires to them when I made arrangements for spring pick up.
I had the dealer order the required wheel installation kits and since I had ordered the chrome brake rotors for the front, new brake pads as well.
Pictures to come as soon as I pick it up tomorrow!

I stayed with the stock size front and rear. Having ridden it for several hours this afternoon, I'm glad I did. Over the winter I had the progressive monotubes installed as well and opted to use two preload clips. I was worried the front end would handle too rough but I'm a fairly large individual at 6' 6" and 285lbs and the reviews and recommendations I had read on these forums and several others, the +280lb weight seemed to be the sweet spot for adding the second preload clip.
While I like the look of the larger wheel and tire combination on a street glide, I didn't think that would work as well on the ultra. Add the increase in road feel that a shorter sidewall tends to provide and I think I made the right choice.

Looks like the Chisels and Impellers both are available in 16/17" combos. I think I'm getting closer to a decision.
