Installing new 66T Pulley

Need your opinion. Is it OK to clean loctite from the threads in the old bolts and re-apply loctite and torqe to spec or should I buy new OEM bolts?

I use a wire wheel on a grinder to clean the threads. Look like new.

their stretch to torque bolts replace em. if they come loose they can do a lot of damage even if u keep it upright.

I know your not supposed to re-use them. I have re-used mine a number of times on a number of bikes. Yeah, wire wheel and blue loc-tite. But that just my experience. You veer from factory recommendations, you take your chances.

THIS!!

Using Blue loctite to proper fact trq spec & never comes loose.

I rec thisvfor stock to lightly modded bikes that arent hammered all day long.

But i dont rec it for a perf built bike with 140-150+ HP thats hammered often.

What the hell is aSTRETCH BOLT?

billib1954 02-02-2018 09:09 PM

It's a bolt that is tightened to a predetermined stretch amount, usually determined by torque or turn of the nut or a combination of both, to near elastic yield strength. This provides more preload on the fastener systems and prevents loosening. Used on high strength joints, automotive head bolts, etc. As the bolts have been stretched from their original use, it is preferred to replace them. That's what little I know, google it. I replaced mine when changing pulleys. Too much work to have them fail or back out to save a few bucks. Your milage may vary.

From what I have read for the 2007 Street Glide you can upgrade to an 08 cush drive pulley and use same belt etc. Is that true? Maybe next time, since I just picked up a new pulley. Anyone have torque specs avaiable for the pulley bolts?

Throttle1971 02-04-2018 09:32 AM

Thinking it is 55-65 ft lbs.

This guy reused his pulley bolts:

Don't know if he loctited them or not, but wouldn't have mattered. Use new bolts!
