Default 2018 M8 upgrades

Just bought a 2018 road glide special, definitely doing the stage one upgrade. Contemplating stage two on the torque cam, would appreciate input before I pull the trigger.
Thanks in advance.

No specific advise other than to use all HD/SE parts if you want to protect your power train warranty.
And be careful because apparently some HD dealers are installing non EPA compliant parts and telling people it will be ok.

Default Stage 1 Upgrade

I have a 2017 Limited with a stage one upgrade.
V&H FP3 Fuel Pack
Rinehart MotoPro 45 slip on's without headers
K&N air cleaner using the OEM housing with a custom cutout (saw this on YouTube) for a second screen to increase air intake volume.

There is plenty of pull with two up and overnight gear on tour pack. The sound is throaty and growls between shifts and has the distinct harley sound. This sounds great to me ( i realize this is subjective) under idle, light throttle, hard throttle and at cruise speeds. This setup does not produce the deep hollow sound that my friends 2017 limited with the Rinehart 4" pipes with headers has. I can hear his bike 1/2 mile away. I lead when we ride so I can listen to my music.

This self installed setup cost me $1,000. I would do again.

On my 2018 Road King I did a Stage 1 (SE tuner and A/C) with Two Brothers Racing Slip-Ons, sold to me by the Dealer. I am 100% pleased with the result. Great sound and performance.

I did stage one and two. The set up is listed on my signature. The tourque cam does just what it says. Tons of extra tourque down low. That makes it popular. Who wouldn’t want that? Gears 1-5, just a flick of the wrist, big roar from the pipes, and lots of pull. On the highway in sixth it leaves a little on the table in my opinion. Takes a little more wrist or a downshift at the higher speeds and gear. I guess that’s what the power cam is for? I don’t know. You don’t get to test ride them. All I know is I love the way it runs with the tourque cam, and I feel like it was worth it.

Thanks in advance.
You may also want to visit the M8 section as well. There's a lot of guys that have posted threads about this very topic.......

........ know your why 1st
..... why do you want to modify your motor ? higher top speed ? make more noise ? pull better under a load ? run cooler ?
...There are lotsa options to accomplish the above goals, but'cha need to 'know your why' 1st
....... i'd just ride it for a while & figure out what exactly you want out of yer mods

I love torque but can't see myself on a crotch rocket or any non Harley model. H-D had Stage demo bikes at Bike Week and I rode a Stage 2 torque cam and it felt great but with my love of torque I wondered if it would be enough over the years of my ownership so I did a Stage 3 because I figured at 71 years old I might as well do the Stage 3 since this could be my last motorcycle. Otherwise I would have definitely done the Stage 2 and been very satisfied. I didn't do the Stage 3 until about 1000 miles and I did notice that the stock 107 did really seem to come alive after I did the 500 mile break in.

Since there seem to be some issues with the M8, I stuck with all H-D parts including the SE tuner and had the work done in my first 60 days of ownership so that the performance parts would be subject to the factory warranty also. A possible majority on this forum feel that any non Harley tuner and header pipes is going to void your power train warranty and I am in that camp also. You will lose some performance by sticking with H-D parts but if warranty is important it could be worthwhile to make that sacrifice.

Thank you all for the input, decided to wait till the 500 mark. Then do Stage 1 & 2 and call it good.
Thanks Again to everyone.
