Default Shock replacement

So, I recently picked up a 2000 Road King. Last week noticed the left rear shock was leaking oil, factory air shocks. After some searching here I think I'll replace them with aftermarket non air shocks. I see progressive 944 is a common replacement. And I know you get what you pay for, just wondering if anyone has experience with Drag Specialty shocks , or what have you all gone with ? Thanks !

The Manufacturer is going to be up to you. Stick with the better known brands.
Can you stand flat footed while straddling your bike? If so, stay with the stock length. If not look at the 1/2" shorter ones. Does the bike have saddlebags? if so you don't need the chrome ones as know one will see them and less polishing .

For what its worth, my inseam is 30" so for my 05 Ultra (stock length 13") I got the 12 1/2" progressive 412's. Great for two up and I don't half to stand on my toes.

If you can wait a bit there are used one on here every now and then. I purchased some 944's barely used on here for a good deal.

I do have bags so black is fine. Good call on the 30" inseam, what mine is, so hopefully a used set of 12 1/2" will show up. Thanks for the tips !

944's work for some and not others for me the sucked . Lot of has to do with over weight of the bike and the ride I think to light to heavy they may not be right for some.

I have a pair of stock rear 2001 shocks in good condition, pay for shipping and they are yours.

Buy some decent coil overs like Ohlins or Bitubo for just over $500.You won’t regret it.
Motorcycle Metal sells Ohlins
DK Customs sells Bitubo
both vendors here,
I have Ohlins on my 07 FLHTC and they were worth the money.

On two bikes now, I have tried the "good for the money" strategy in looking for the the shock that will give me a "good enough" ride .... By the time I found some shocks that worked OK, I had spent a bit more than what a pair of top shelf shocks would have cost...

I suggest you try a search for shocks here, as they have been discussed a lot....! You will have all the opinions/ reading you can handle...

Then buy once, cry once.... Spend the money for a top shelf shock and ride on....

FWIW... I finally bought a set of Ohlins from Howard @ Motorcycle Metal. He gives forum discounts, good service, and I found that the Ohlins were the shocks I had been looking for, for several years and two bikes.....

I second keeping an eye out on the classifieds here. I picked up a pair of Progressive 430's there pretty cheap. Put them on my 01 Road King and a huge improvement. I put 13" Pro Action on my Road Glide and they are awesome but not cheap.
