2004 Road King Custom ... what I've done so far.
Purchased 2004 Real Red FLHRSI with 15K miles on the clock just 4 months ago. Love the clean
lines, mag wheels and blackwall tires. Originally sold in Las Vegas. Knew 2nd owner who trailered
it up from Kingman to Winnemucca. Drove down with buddy from Boise and rode it home.
Lucky Peak Dam near Boise, ID.
1) OEM 12" rear air shocks didn't work for me due to mere 2" of travel and somewhat harsh ride.
Swapped 'em for set of OEM 13" air shocks and set PSI to 15-lbs. What a difference! Gained a
bit more ground clearance as well which helps on the winding backroads here.
2) OEM beach bars were, without a doubt, the crappiest ones I've ever had on any bike. Did not
ride it much as my right wrist was getting messed-up. Switching over to Heritage bars as well as
braided brake lines (OEM front brake tube from M/C too short) definitely improved the handling.
PO changed discs to Mesh Style Polished Rotors.
3) Didn't like the OEM FLHRCI seat PO installed which is shaped like a horse saddle and isn't
ideal for my height and weight. Found a used deep dish basketweave HD Sundowner seat that
moved me back and down. Happy as hell with it.
4) OEM floorboards are 1" narrower than FLHRI/FLHRCI so was gonna replaced 'em with the
HD 1" extended floorboars. Decided to get the Kuryakyn P/N 420 spacers which bring 'em
out 3/4" although I haven't installed 'em yet.
5) Will eventally get the FullSac True Duals conversion kit. The OEM "Y" connector cracked
and PO installed used 2008 Ultra Classic headers with aftermarket mufflers (no brand name
on 'em) with bolt-on baffles.
6) Has stock 88" with Spring Loaded Cam Tensioners. Will upgrade to Hydraulic Cam Chain
Tensioners along with new cams (maybe Andrews TW21 or TW26a).
Incidently, I did take ~10 mile demo ride on used late model FLHRCI. It was smooth as silk
although I didn't like the 6gal tank nor sitting ON rather than IN the bike ergos. Tried FLSTCI
but the buzzing through bars at higher freeway speeds irked me.
A friend let me sit on his 2006 FLHRI Police Edition and it fit me like a glove. Felt as if I was
sitting IN rather than ON his bike so started looking for pre-2008 Road Kings and, right out
of the blue, a friend put his FLHRSI up for sale so I jumped on it.

Always liked the RK Custom.
Here's what I did to mine. It was totally stock when I got it.
Yes, those crappy bars where one of the first things to go!
Added passing lamps, new sundowner, and another Corbin solo.
Swapped the leather bags for hard bags,
Put on a set of Wild ones 10" mini apes.
Floorboard spacers worked out good, as well as highway pegs installed down low.
This is my last bike, have had it for 10 years now.
Before pic, had just added the Corbin, the stock seat sucked!
After pic
Still have some other stuff to add on, Arnott Aldans, and chrome lowers in the front..
