Default Installed some new bars. Bushing question

I installed 14 in wild 1 bagger bars on my 13 sg. I bought their firmer poly bushings as they recommended since I am going to a taller bar. I torqued to the the spec in the book (30-40) I did 40 and I noticed they feel very weak. If I was backing the bike up and put some force they flex the bushings quite a bit. My father had the same bike and bars along with the bushings. He had his done and are much firmer when moving the bike around.

Question: I have heard with these poly bushing you want to torque and let the poly settle and compress and torque, repeating this a few times. Is this true?

If if it is true I would be disturbing the loctite. Should I put the bolts, clean, re loctite and torque as described above?

Thanks!

I’ve never had to retorque the poly bushings. I had 14’s on my 11 streetglide. I just tightened the **** out of the. Went by feel.

Awesome I think I might just do that. Did you run the stock top clamp or buy a beefier one? Thanks for the input I appreciate it.

On your 13 you do not need a beefier clamp, you already have one. The 09 and down had the two piece clamp that needed replacing.

Mine already had the one piece clAmp. I just cleaned the clamping area on bars and clamp w alcohol. To not leave any grease behind.

The torque specs you had for bushings. Are those stock specs? If so their not going to work for new bushings. To get them even I would tighten with a torque wrench till it feels good then just make the other one match with same setting.

Right, my steed is an '08 RKC with the one piece bar clamp. I went with Wildone 10" mini apes and I purchased their bushings. I had a terrible time with the bushing. The bushing were a bit too tall and I could not use the stock chrome bar clamp cover. The bottom of the cover would touch the top of the bars. I torqued to the correct specs and the bars would more. Eventually I went with new OEM bushings and all went beautiful. I have a set of Wildone bushings that I can give to someone that is interested.

i never had to touch the bushings again . I did however how to keep an eye on the clamp tho. There were time on my softail that id hit an unexpected bump and they would move a bit no matter how much they were torqued I ended up replacing the clamp and it pretty much solved the issue

I installed solid bushings. (they're not solid but have an inner spacer) on my new 14's.
The clamp doesn't hold tight enough against the leverage of pulling or pushing, so I had to install a locking type top clamp.
If you go this route, confirm you're buying the correct one as not all risers are the same.
