Default Oil pressure loss

Ok so tonight I went out to check how I did with my head light alignment. When I stopped at a gas station to grab some snacks I noticed when I started back up I had a loud tap. After running up to another store because they were closed I noticed it stopped as I gained speed. After leaving the other store the tap came back. Once I pulled into my development I notice the pressure drop fast and the idiot light came on. I'd give it throttle and the light went out and pressure came back. Got to the house checked oil was a quart low. Filled it up and still same issue. Rode the bike around the block and it didnt stopped. Any ideas before I strip the pump out.

On your 06? How many miles and do you still have stock tensioners? Perhaps they let go and/or you lost an inner bearing.

No it has the hydraulic upgrade. I do not know when it was done though.

It would certainly be worth taking a look inside the cam chest. Would be nice to know how many miles on the current setup, lifters, etc.

Forgot to mention that the pressure goes up under load. It moves a little in neutral.

So I pulled the cam plate and took oil pump off. I didnt see anything out of the ordinary. But not sure how to tell if the pump is bad. The tensioners are worn pretty good so I'm gonna replace them while I'm in there

Did you take the pump apart and inspect the gerotors and housing for pits, nicks, wear, etc? Pic's of that stuff maybe?

I’d change the inner bearings too with full compliment. Those look like old style INA. Change lifters too if you don’t know how many miles on them. Johnson Hylifts, S&S, or other good knowns. Check the oil sending unit as well.

There doesnt appear to be any pitting or unusual wear
