Garmin 660 GPS & The Rollover Bug
Guess what? That Garmin or RoadTech Zumo 660 GPS you paid big bucks for is now basically a paper weight. I just discovered that there are a number of GPS devices effected by a number rollover problem. From the Garmin website:
What is the GPS Week Number Rollover (WNRO)?
The GPS system is world renowned for its ability to provide accurate and reliable positioning and timing information worldwide. The GPS satellites transmit to users the date and time accurate to nanoseconds. However, back in 1980, when the GPS system first began to keep track of time, the date and time was represented by a counter that could only count forward to a maximum of 1024 weeks, or about 19.7 years. After 1024 weeks had elapsed, this counter “rolled over” to zero, and GPS time started counting forward again. This first rollover occurred in August of 1999. The second rollover will occur on April 6, 2019.

This definitely effects the 660 and probably the 665. My understanding is that there is NO firmware fix available and there isn't even a plan to offer one. The below information was posted on the adv forum.
Zumo 660 (firmware 5.10)
Symptoms:
- always wrong date time on boot (aug 21st 1999, 19h59), even if acquired on previously.
- sunset/sunrise are wrong
- acquires wrong date (in aug 1999).
- doesn't offer "automatically" in time setting
- recorded tracks' dates are wrong.
- world clock app cannot provide times.
For the Zumo 660:
Just don't remove your battery! The battery seems to be buffering the date. I've read reports from people that as soon as they remove the battery (you have to if you take your SD card out) or hard reset, date will be off and back to 1999.
I happen to hard reset my GPS today and noticed this problem.

I agree that the most important function is that the nav works. I would be surprised if this doesn’t effect many of the hunting and other back sized units I have also. Sunrise and sunset I use frequently to time my departures so I have a have enough daylight to get to. Destination before dark.
I hope they consider a work around

I contacted Garmin technical support today in regards to this number rollover issue. According to the technician I spoke with, they are working on a fix. He took my email address and said when a fix becomes available, they'll let me know. No time frame was given. Other owners of Harley-Davidson's Road Tech GPS units may also want to call and request a firmware update. The number to call for Garmin OEM support (Harley Road Tech owners) is: 800-408-7419

Remove the battery or clear all your user data and let me know what happens.
Remember to first backup all your data using Garmin Express.
Clearing User Data
NOTICE
This deletes all user-entered information.
1. Hold your finger on the lower-right corner of the zumo screen while turning on the zumo.
2. Keep your finger pressed until the message appears.
3. Touch Yes to clear all user data.
BTW: I mentioned the above in the initial post.
