Default 2014 Street Glide Special Ignition switch

I made a poor decision when I tried to put a machined cover over my ignition switch. It was very tight and I thought I would tap it with a rubber mallet. Bad idea. It broke the ignition switch pin off. I was able to get the pin out and ordered a new switch. I've watched you tube videos and made an alignment tool out of copper tubing. I cannot for the life of me get the new switch to completely drop all the way in. I can however start the bike by using a screwdriver which makes me very uncomfortable. Sometimes it positions itself with the switch to turn on the ignition but does not click it just glides. You turn it to the far left and it pulls right out. Is there a detailed way to resolve this issue or should I just bite the bullet and take it to the shop. This has been a hard lesson learned. Any help is much appreciated

Welcome to the Forum from Utah.

This is the best video I've seen on removing and installing the Ign Sw. :

If you could insert a picture of your problem maybe someone will know what wrong.

that video made it look easy. I had a hard time with my 05 E glide. I think to make the tool you need some 1/4" tubing. One thing I like about my '14 is I can slip the cover out without removing the the ignition switch.
