Have a SGS with stock seat and 8.5” Kockwerks windshield. I’m still getting buffeting with the 8.5” and it seems like I just need another inch or so. Should I go with a Madstad or a lower seat like Mustang?

 

Many of us replace the seat anyway, so.....

 

I would try the cheaper option to make sure I needed to be up or down. The seat is expensive and you will probably change it at sometime for comfort.

 

As your seat is your main point of contact with your bike, if you want to be more comfortable, fix that first! If that changes your riding position, then by all means sort out your windshield next.

 

Cheaper to try a different w/shield. I used a 8 inch LSR recurve on my SGS and no wind buffeting at all.
