I’m interested in buying oil temperature dipstick and was wondering how reliable is that product. I see it’s listed at $149 and don’t want to spend if the reliability if poor. Anyone here had it ?
I live in eastern WA and temp here is over 90+ in summer. This year I plan on keeping EITMS off and see how it affects engine temperature.
I have one of these analog dipstick/gauges from JES Custom. I like it, and I've checked accuracy in boiling water and it was right on. Doesn't save you any money, but you don't have to press a button to read a silly LED display. Insert installs in threaded hole and gauge/dipstick is removed to check or add oil.
Link is for '07-'16 twin cam--other years/models also available.
I remember when those things first started coming out in the late 90’s and early 2000’s....they were cool, but never really worked good.
I can see someone replacing the fairing mounted air temp gauge with the oil temp gauge.
I can see someone swapping out a dipstick for an analog temp gauge.
Me personally.....I’ve never had an oil temp gauge on any Harley. I ride it nice and easy until it’s warmed up. I’ve seen MANY bikes in very hot stop and go traffic....never once an issue with oil being too hot.
I knew a guy that installed the oil temp guage in the fairing. After that he was always paranoid that his bike was getting too hot or it wasn’t hot enough.
Anyways....oil is suppose to be hot for it to do its job.

I have the electric dipstick on my Sportster and like it. When I get in from a ride I can press the button to check the oil level. It is so convenient.
