On a HOG ride yesterday our Road Captain, an ex Airforce fighter pilot in Vietnam, had on baggy cargo pants, but tucked into his high boots. Looked very military, but I couldn't help thinking how practical that is. I've never gotten by jeanscaught on the shifter, but I have had them blown halfway up my shin making me lookand feel silly. Glad you were not hurt, but a bummer about your bike. I've dropped my Glide twice over the past year and have learned to love those crash bars.

 

I think I get it now.

On my bikes, I have always lowered the rear shift lever to where it almost touches the floorboard when I up-shift. I could never get used to the lever being as high as installed at the factory. That may explain how it would be possible to hook a pant leg on it.

 

Time to loose the bell bottoms bro.....JK glad you and the hog are alright!!!!

 

Never had this happen, but I was concerned that it could. Iwill examinemy jeans and chaps totry and prevent this from happening. I also like the idea of putting yourright footdown first.Thanks for theinfo.

 

Did the same thing myself. Stopped at a light. . Went to bring up my left foot, bootlace got caught on the footpeg, lost balance and over I went. So embarassed. Fortunately there was no damage to the bike, just to my ego.

Glad your ok. Chalk it up to the law of averages. Do enough riding, something somewhere is bound to happen. Just glad it wasn't something more serious.

 

That's why I wear speedo's, flip-flops, and no shirt.

I can't belileve no one else is having this problem, I don't wear bell bottoms just boot cut jeans and my jeans were hanging up quite a bit. So I went back to my Marine Corps days and took one of my wife's head bands (not when I was in the corps) and bloused my trouser leg. For those that don't know what that means you put a rubber band type thng on your boot then tuck your pants leg under it. When you get were your going you untuck and the band stays right where it is for the ride home. It works great it's inexpensive and it guarantee's your pant leg won't get hung up. Just another tip from you uncle Lar. [8D]

 

I had it happen to me in a parking lot at a HOG meeting! Talk about embarrissing! The heal shifter is the offending part. I removed it as soon as I got home.

 

Saw a couple of posts regarding lowering the levers till they just touch the board. (when shifting)
Keep in mind, if the bike goes over, the board has to have room to flip up without damaging the shift levers.

 

That's why I lengthened the linkage a tad. One spline was where it would just shift but mashed into the board a bit. The next one up was still too high. I didn't need the front one as high as it was anyway and the next spline down was too low so it was a win/win.
