road to sturgis road construction
you might want to double check your road map to sturgis
and check the road construction.
a friend of mine said that they have 5 bridges tore up the first
100 miles of I-90 in SD from the east.
there were delays a few days ago
and with all the sturgis traffic i am sure it will get worse..
have a safe trip every one..
and check the road construction.

RE: road to sturgis road construction
Just got back from the Black Hills and took I-90 across SD there and back. You will hit one lane traffice a few times where there is construction going on. Their work zone speed limit was 65. Speed limit on I-90 is 75 mph. The construction will slow you down some but I-90 will probably still be the fastest way across SD coming from the east. Outside of one stretch of 16 miles, most of the construciton one lane traffic was just a few miles long.

RE: road to sturgis road construction
while you're at Sturgis it's worth the ride to Hulett, Wy and Devils Tower
about 90 miles west.
Couple miles west of Sturgis on I-90 is a highway on north side (I believe us 34) slower paced than I-90 and more scenic) or just take I-90 about 40miles west to Spearfish / Belle foursche exit. go north about 5 -10 miles.
Take us 34 west. you will pass through Aladdin (US's oldest continually operating general store) into Hulett, Wy and their No Panty Wednesday Party (check web for date) cops are fewer and nicer, less parking tickets and flashing tickets than Sturgis, but still good for whole family.
US 34 good road, rolling hills, curves and straights and panoramic views.
10 miels west of Hulett, Devils Tower. Take it easy lot of other people slower than you and fall away curves (but board scrapers take fast if you want to and when it's safe to do so).
Can back track way you came or at bottom of tower go south to Moorcroft ,Wy and I-90, east to Spearfish and run the canyon.
2 good places to stay if you want quiet.
Belle Foursche (mid way between Sturgis and everything else) Playground Campground (have website) owner will do all they can for good stay. Prices are fair. about 6 blocks away 2 churches serve all you can eat breakfast (no preaching), town has street party dancing two nights and one bar allows burnouts inside( least they did 2006).
Other is in spearfish canyon at junction of 14 & 222 at Savoy go left.
Couple miles down on right side. Pine tree or something like that.
Have motel rooms or camping in back along the creek.
continue down canyon to Deadwood and Gambling (by the way you MUST feed parking meters even on Sunday or ALL bikes in the sapce get a ticket).
then Deadwood back to Sturgis. Easy day ride or take two for the whole route. Great Scenery and nice roads (winding, open, canyon, got it all).
Can't upload thumbs keep getting a server error.
so here's four larger photobucket pics
1st Knuckle Saloon Sturgis (also see Full Throttle and Broken Spoke)
2nd Alladdin General Store
3rd Welcome Bikers Hulett,Wy (neat small free museum west end main
street everything for sale, open container
allowed while walking, free supper)
4th Devils tower from KOA at base.
Want more info PM me
Can't find my photos of the roads I'm talking about. Guess i will have to go back in 2009
