Default Saddleman SDC Pro Gripper

I'm looking for some feedback on the Saddleman SDC Pro Gripper with lumbar support. Specifically, how do you like it on long rides in excess of 500 mile per day? Any negatives?

I'm rocking a Saddlemen currently. I only have about 800 to 1000 miles on it. My results so far, the lumbar support is awesome. It doesn't feel like a backrest so much as it keeps my spine from rolling back and that has helped. The seat felt weird as hell at first and I didn't like it, but after getting used to it, I really like the feeling of the seat.

I rode 270 miles in a day and at 220 miles, my butt was screaming to get off. Again, it was not broken in at that time yet. Either the seat is getting better or I'm getting used to it, but it's getting better. I rode 250+ miles on Friday and was ready for more.

The seat will give you a locked in feeling and the gripper material keeps you planted, which actually makes it comfortable for me. It's not a touring seat though and so far in my experience, I'd be afraid to ride 250 from home only to know I'd have 250 to get back. Which is pretty much what I'm doing in a couple weeks on that seat.

The negatives are; it takes a lot of time to break in and it was painful to break in. At roughly 1000 miles, it's still breaking in, but getting better. The lumbar support is just that, lumbar support. It is not a back rest like you'd expect from Mustang or similar.

This is good stuff, thanks for taking the time to post this. All premium seats take quite a while to break in, and it can be painful.

I'm waiting to get more time in on my seat and I'm going to do a full run down at mileage intervals for everyone. I also have a Mustang touring seat and will use that and the stock seats as comparisons in the write up. Long story short, at first I felt like I'd wasted my money and now I don't want to go back to the touring seat.

I'll be looking forward to this.

It’s a great seat. It definitely was a break in period but when it does it’s friggin awesome.
Unfortunately, my girl can’t ride on it for longer than 20 minutes.
I just got a new road sofa delivered about 5 minutes ago, hopefully it’s as good to me and better for her.

Just put a Road Sofa on today. HARD seat but still new. look forward to breaking it in if this damn rain would stop! I also have one of those $20 air cushion type seat covers. On long rides I use that just to break up the a$$ points and it helps. I figure I may need that air cushion to help break in the RS.

I’m loving my SDC pro so far! Like someone else said, it’s not made for a passenger, no one with any kind of butt that is. I found the backrest pushed me forward so I used a torch and heated the bracket and bent it to match the slope of the seat, it’s great now, I can lay back on it and it’s in line the lumbar section of the seat. I did not have the gel put in the rear section, think it was like $40 more but even Saddlemen told me not to spend the money because it’s not gonna be great for a passenger either way. The longest trip I’ve done on it so far is about 4 hours but it’s breaking in nicely and I think I looks great!

Here is a pic of my road sofa, great for the wife but it sits me up higher than I like so I use the SDC pro when solo.

That’s probably how I’m gonna roll also.
My girls issue is she doesn’t have much butt for cushion.
I kinda knew all of that when I bought it but it’s such a sweet seat..
