Ok... so i take off the pass floorboard bracket to get the last screw off of the derby cover, remove the derby cover.. and there is his cardboard looking disc still covering the Primary... I remove it and on the inside of the disc it says "Towards Clutch"

Ok.. but this part doesn't show up in the exploded diagram of the primary and inspection cover in my parts manual. Also, the gasket that is shown in the manual and came with my gasket kit is not there. I figured there would be an old gasket to remove and replace with the new one.

Can anyone enlighten me here before I start to reassemble?

 

that thing that says "This side towards clutch" is the gasket.

Just bought one yesterday, as I bought a new Derby Cover, and I had the same reaction...."THAT thing is a gasket???"

 

Who changed it last time? the 07's use a rubber gasket that you don't need to replace everytime!

I take it you had the dealer change your oil at least once before this?
That is an old style gasket... the new one is a large rubber oring style. (red)
Get rid of the disc and replace it with the correct one.

 

OK.... this crdboard gasket shows up as a part for a TC-88 motor... I have the rubber gasket so I will replace this cardboard one with that. The last time it was changed was 1500 miles ago at the dealer during the 1K mile service.

There also seemed to be a lot of silver shavings/gunk caught up on the magnetic plug. Is it normal to have a decent amount of that stuff on the plug during the first few thousand miles as everything breaks in?

 

Are these Harley "Techs" (and I use the word loosely) Supposed to know how to change the fluids?

tizone, why do need to take the floorboard off?? I use a torx screwdriver from sears and the screws come right out on mine. If its too much of an angle on the screw, there are ball ended torx screwdrivers out there, just for that purpose. Just an idea.
