Default Why apes on sharks?

So why do people like mini apes on FLTRs? Same frame as Electra Glides. Been looking at Road Glide Limiteds/Ultras, but want my hands down low behind the fairing. Could buy a special, and add a tourpak. But I don't want to screw around, and want the lights and speakers.

You don't see this as much with FLHs, but very common sharknose bikes.

I never understood that. Apes with fairings look ridiculous.

I suspect one of the reasons fairings were invented were to shield your hands.

You are in Texas. And it probably don't even leave the state, if you are like many Texans. Rain and cold are not a concern. I would probably have an FLHR, trying to cool down as best I coiuld if I lived in such a hot area.

Up here we think you are sissys when you bundle up when you get cold.

Fairing or no fairing it is about comfort. Set your bike up how ever you want and dont worry about what people think. If you want hand protection get gloves or a batwing.

I am not worried about what people think. Just curioius why sharknoses do it at higher rate than other touring bikes.

Gloves only go so far. Fairing makes a big difference when it is really cold.

I see a few batwings with apes, but sharknoses it seems very common.

I could buy a 2013, but I think if I am going to buy a newer bike I might as well make the jump to little newer. I want bluetooth and new saddlebags. Plus some people seem to think the frame is better post 2014. I I have no experience myself

Problem is they are coming from the factory that way for ultra/limited road glides. Standard and specials come normal. I've thought about trying to find a special that someone added a tourpak. But I do like the rigid mount paks, plus they have more lights. On my 07 passenger can't hear the hear speaker, but I was hoping on newer ones they could

Get gloves, heated grips, or install a set of bars that suit your needs if you are buying a used bike.
Don't let a set of bars ruin your purchase. Debating "why" people install apes is crazy, we put bars on mostly for comfort.

I am putting 10" bars on my bat, it will take my hands away from the protection of the fairing. I am doing it for long distance comfort. I own gloves. I do live in the north, and I do ride in the far north, and just about every other state when it's cold. So, what?

Can they factory apes be rotated down? My hands also fall asleep when raised, so I can't do apes if i wanted too.
