Road King 2002 FLHRCI cam tensioners
#111
Hi there...! Me again
ok, Saturday was quite busy... I am waiting for the bearing puller/instal tool to be finally machined so I have more time for other things.
Today I did the cleaning of the stuff, of course some photos below.
And there will be questions as well
I have preserved and renovated the push rod tubes - using "best friend" steel wool of course #0000, compressed air, brake cleaner etc.
They were nasty dirty and I assume noone had a look in there since bike left factory 20 years ago
I have cleaned up and protected the springs with the hi-temp spray greese.
Here comparison of finished one vs the stuff I took out from the bike
I have cleaned up the insides, and put some fresh harley oil there to preserve them from inside until they start to operate
here ready to be packed...
I have also cleaned up all the bolts, cover surfaces, rocker arms breathers and so on and so on. What is left is to clean up the engine and the place for gaskets over there etc.
And here the question.
Can you please have a look at the tappets...they have marks of wear...but I cannot feel anything under the fingers or nails. Can they still be used according to you Guys ?
While I was taking off the cam plate... i squeezed the black shoe... and it broke... but it was quite used and fragile as mentioned before. - Have a new one already
I also found this in the breather
And finally everything put back together in the boxes, marked and cleaned. both cylinders separate.
To be continued...

That's why most people upgrade to the newer metal stamped version. I believe they require new bolts too otherwise the old bolts don't fit. I have heard of some disassembling the plastic ones and rebuilding them but I've never done it. Hopefully someone else who has can chime in.
