Saddlebag Lid Conversion
Hey guys I'm needing some help. I have a 2008 Street Glide that is custom painted. The saddlebags i have on it now has the factory latching hardware on them. I was looking at changing that out to the new One Touch system just to upgrade and modernize the look. The system that is currently on the bike works but its a bit funky to deal with. I have to undo the latch on the outside, lift the outside of the lid up, unhook the inside latch, and then lay the lid over. Then when I go to close the lid its the same process but obviously in reverse. It just seems like it would be simpler to have the 14+ style hardware on it. But I cannot find anything online that says if this is possible or if theres a conversion kit for it. The only thing I can find is a total bag conversion kit and I cant change the bags or lids due to the custom paint. And I'm not sure what the cost would be to get the newer style bags and have them paint matched. I don't want to spend $200 or so on a 14+ latch kit if it won't work with my lid or bag. I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience dealing with this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I have never heard of switching out just the lids on pre 2014 bag with post 2014 lids... the shapes different. But we have put the 2014 bags on a couple 2010 bikes because of what you describe with the older bags, and there is literally nothing to it. Just had to adjust the flanges for the two bolts, that hold the bags on, a little (actually just one of them, if I remember right, for each side/saddle bag). I would suggest finding yourself some used 2014 or newer bags and have them painted, or you can go aftermarket. If you are ok with stock saddlebags, they're easy to find, and if it's a custom paint job, you're gonna be painting them anyways.
I have a '13 King with the newer bags. As mentioned, the dimensions are different between new and old. You can get parts for the opening mechanism, but even if you can make it work to install, the newer lid is not going to seal right with the older bottom.
There are aftermarket 2014+ complete bags that are cheaper than what you're trying to do.

Ok I figured I wouldn't be able to do what I was wanting to do but wanted to make 100% sure there wasn't something I was missing. I'll probably just stick with the factory bags and lids since they are already painted to match the bike. Thank you all for your advice!
