I was recently in the market for another bike. Checked out the new Harleys and even took an F900R for a ride. Couldn't see myself on a computer with two wheels and frankly, the electronic nannies and screens BS is lost on me.
I went the other way and got a 2003 FXDWG.
If someone says the bike looks dated I'll take it as a compliment
yup... me too... give me simple... just not carb simple
My '90 Electra Glide Sport has a flat screen dash. It does everything I need it to do. Plus I don't get finger prints all over it.
I love those. A friend had an 89 with that instrument panel. I think it was an FLHS. No fairing or tour pack, just a windshield and hard bags. Kinda regret not buying it when he either sold or traded for a 2012 TriGlide back in 2013 or 2014.
Hi Steve,
Electronic instruments on the new models may be perfect, but nothing beats the good old handiwork of the old, and the ancient, instruments.
My old Indian 741b, the army model from the early 1940s, only had a brass ignition lock and an original Indian amperemeter, and both parts still worked perfectly.
Attached are two photos, one from England and one from Germany.
The german motorcycle was a 1927 "Mabeco", the well known german (illegal...) copy of the "Indian Scout" from these years.
The instruments and fittings of the Mabeco were and are a pure feast for the eyes for any fan of classic motorcycles.
Pure beauty and attention to detail, as if created by a watchmaker, enjoy the photos!
Mike
PS The Mabeco even had a space for two spare spark plugs; they even thought of that back then...
