Default Re: 5ooo mile service

I bought my first Harley in April of this year ('07 RKC) and it now has 4700 miles on it. I'll probably top off 5000 miles soon and the riding season here in Michigan is quickly coming to a close. A few months ago (at the 3000 mile mark) the dealer installed SERT, Stage I Kit and Rihnhart T-D's and dynoed the bike. They said that at the 5000 mile serviece they would re-dyne the bike (for free) just to make sure it was fine adjusted right after burning a few miles on it. Should I get the 5000 mile service done now in the fall or just put her in the garage for the winter and have that service done now before putting her to bed for the winter? I heard that you should have fresh oil for winter storage to protect the engine. Thanks guys, I really have learned a lot by reading your other posts.

Yep,especially considering the agreement, sooner rather than later and my understanding is thatabout the only worrywould be the same(either scoot or cage) -water condensing in the gas tank so fill'er'up. Oh well, that has nothing to do with what you asked either so...

Ya I agree the sooner the better. Were starting to see a lot of that at our shop right now. As far as the
Dyno run goes.... all they really need to do is a quick plug reading that will tell the story on the running condition after the stag 1

Do it now...

Storage?

I store my bike every night... every night I pull her into the garage and store her and every morning I take her out of storage and go far a ride!

'course, here in Texas we ride year 'round.

Ride Safe -

I also agree with everyone else do it now! Make sure you clean her up real good and put a nice coat of wax on her also. I just got my 5k service done today and she'sset up for the winter here (unless a warm day comes along) Now all I have to do is get the wife's bike in for a winter oil change.

You had better get the promise for the re-do in writing. Its my experience that stealer's er...uh dealers have a short memory. Service writers will also tell you anything to get your money.

LOL, I'd do the service myself and pay to have it dyno'd by a shop with a good rep for it. Of course, they'd have to be able to do the SERT.

I think the limits of the SERT are, mainly, that a Harley dealer has the equipment to tune it and they seem to be really hit and miss. I might still do the service myself, know its done right and pay for them to do the dyno and adjust.
