Default 1st gear

is it bad to leave the bike in gear such as on a hill?

just wondering when it's hot does it hurt the clutch or tranny?

I always put minein neutral since I usually park with the front heading up hill when I can. The only time I leave it in 1st is when the front end is pointed down hill. Just an old habit from 25+ years of riding because someone long ago told me the old wives' tale that it hurts the bike's trannieif it's in gear. I don't know if that's true, but I do know that I've never had a problem with the bike rolling backward when it's on its jiffy stand no matter how steep the hill.

What would be there to hurt? Metal will not stick to metal, unless it's under extreme heat and or pressure. The clutch is engaged, but it is when in neutral too. It won't hurt anything, and it will keep it from rolling backwards on a hill. Yea I know the jiffy will too, but I trust the strength of the motor more than the jiffy myself.

uphill or downhill mine is in gear has not hurt anything yet and have been riding a lot longer than I would like to admit.

don't haul it. but if you do, don't leave it in gear. that will cause flat spots on bearings. (false berrneling)
