I would recommend to NOT remove the crash bar(s) I was recently involved in two accidents both times the crash bars prevented serious damage to the bike.
Without the the crash barsa tip over in the garage at the right angle can do severe damage to the bags, fairing and tank.
I'm on my third set of crash bars withthe original tins.

As nice as it looks I would not recommend it. I had to lay mine down the other week and damn glad I had them on. I also just purchased the saddlebag guards to avoid future damage to them.[:@] You never know!!! I'm one that leans towards funtion over looks.
