low mileage scoot
I knownthis will be hard to believe but since my other scoot was stolen in March I have gotten a settlement and found a 2000 Road King Classic with only 6,600 miles on it. It has the original tires and I believe the original brake pads. I jumped on the deal and have replaced the tires, brake pads and one air shock. Runs good, just a couple of things I need help with. When I turn the ignition switch there is a high pitched shrill sound that starts and then stops. When I start the engine it comes on again and will stay one. It had done this two or three times in the past 2-3 weeks. It is starting to worry me. Also sometimes when I have to stop quick it seems as though something in the front end rattles that I can't seem to locate. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: low mileage scoot
The sound you're hearing is the fuel pump priming and running. I'd check all the fasteners on the bike to identify your rattle, remember that sounds in the front may actually be comingfrom the middle or even rear of the bike. Pay particular attention to brackets for missing bolts as they can come out and are cheap to fix. Also check your VIN number with your local dealer and ensure that your bike receives any HD technical bulletin/recall/upgrades for its year of manufacture such as the cam bearing upgrade. Enjoy your new bike and don't let anyone tell you that MM EFI bikes aren't every bit as good as Delphi bikes. After all, MM is still a major contractor for new HD EFI parts and its the ECM that is made by Delphi. Money is no object for my hobbies and I would have sold my '01 long ago if there was an advantage to a newer model.
