Default Thanks to all now giving something back

Hello All
I would like to thank the members here that gave me advice about purchasing my ultra Glide. The first thing I did when I got it home was change the oil but after looking at how the filter is installed on the bike I did not want to make a mess all over my new machine. This is what I came up with. I searched the site but could find no reference about this so I hope it helps the community. To replace the oil filter without spilling one drop of oil on you bike or floor simply cut a piece of building paper and make a gutter out of it
Slide it under the filter housing and angle it down toward the oil pan.

When you are done with it just throw it away. The building paper has a coating on it that the oil won’t penetrate. I had this stuff lying around but a roll of this stuff is about $10 at Home Depot and you will have a lifetime of deposable uses. I don’t know if someone else has a better idea but that’s what I came up with and it worked perfectly

I think that is a great idea. I know that Harley or somebody makes something like this but hell, you'd just have to clean it when you were done. I like your idea better. Just throw it away and make a new one next time.

By golly, I like it! I'm gonna go use that idea right now, and change my oil before I freeze my butt off on the way to FL this evening.

That's a good idea. I've got some roofing paper out in the shed.

Hello again
I am glad I could contribute

I just left the paper under the fliter housing until all the oil drained out. I wiped the housing down and put the new filter on then carfully slid the paper out. I did not spill one drop this way

when you buy the filter you actually get a spill proof device with it. ive been using the oil filter box unfolded with the tabs torn off, works just like a gutter.

I've always used a piece of my laundry soap bottle cut to fit. It's "ALL" I believe and a sharp exacto
knife does wonders. Just make sure it's under the filter mount all the way,

Great idea. I'll be using something like that next time. But didn't I see some dust on your left floorbard there?

This is exactly what I do; the paper is flexible enough to allow for a nice custom fit under the filter and soft enough to never cause worry about doing any damage in that area. I make funnels for filling the oil (on my truck also) from the same stuff.
