Road Glide is the best handling touring motorcycle HD has. No additional weight (40+ Lbs) on the forks makes it for a more smother ride and so much better in a windy condition.

You're not gonna get an answer here... buy what you like, both are great bikes. For me I just liked the styling of the SG better but the RG does have a certain appeal too. Sort of like choosing Blonde vs. Brunette...

Nope. Fairing sits further out so the wind comes from under and around. People have said with fairing lowers it is better. If'n you don't ride in the winter or live in a warm climate it really doesn't matter.

Love my RG. Didn't care for the barn door batwing fairing mounted to the front forks of the SG. But as I always say, you gotta get what you like cause if you don't you won't be happy. Good luck.

I've been looking for an 09 touring bike and I'm open minded about them all. I have a RKC and I love the bike, but I found riding everyday 60 miles in heavy 75mph traffic that sometimes I want a little more protection than just the RK windshield provides, so I am moving to a fairing.

I have test road the SG and Ultra, but not the RG yet. I have been reading a lot about all these bikes on the forum and what I'm learning is that the RG doesn't seem to give all that much more protection than my RKC. I like the SG with the low windshield for the hot Oklahoma summers. But my wife likes the protection of the Ultra windshield, so in a matter of a few seconds, I can switch from one to the other. It seems like most of the RG guys are spending hundreds of dollars trying to find that one shield that works as good as the RK. There is a lot of conversation on all the forums about it.

I could be wrong and I hope I am. I plan on riding a RG before I pull the trigger, because my druthers are to ride an Orange RG to work everyday. But the windshield factor is making me think SG or Electraglide.

stay away from the R/G...far far away !!! People point their
fingers at you and snicker....they even talk about you behind your back...
kinda makes you feel like a red headed step-child....
That being said, if I had it to do all over again I'd still buy the R/G....
cause she stands out in a sea of Harley Davidsons and handles
like a dream.......10k miles since the end of May and loving
every one of 'em.

MonsterMile , maybe it's just me and maybe I'm used to it , but all the extra air people talk about has never been an issue with me ..

But what you say about the airflow is correct ...

But then , to me the batwing air is an issue ..

Its all in what you want , you have to be the one to live with it ..

Both have their good and bad points , and you cud nitpick them both ..

Comes down to it , caint go wrong either way ..

That's the nicest looking RG I have ever seen. Good work coolmac!

Makes me want to reconsider my SG order.....

Everyone I know that has one put a lot of miles on them and I have never seem anyone driving slow on the freeway with the RG. Still love my SG though and the fork mounted fairing doesnt bother me anyone even in heavy winds, just roll with it. Like they said before it would be nice to buy both. Good luck
From what I have been reading on the 09 road tests, the new chassis helps with the unstable response to wind and gusts on the bat wing fairings now.

So maybe the stability differences are less apparent between the two for 09.

I agonized for a couple of weeks trying to decide between the SG and RG. I rode them both extensively and they are both terrific bikes. I went with the RG because it felt more stable at freeway speeds and I liked not having the fairing weight on the bars. I also liked the roomier feel. The RG has a little more cornering clearance as well. I've got no regrets - I absolutely love the RG.
