Default need help to dx a problem

i have an 07 RKC 20k miles with race tuner. the bike has always run excellent. last sunday as well as this sunday i needed to tow it home. I am a daily rider.

both times it happened like this. riding without issue made a pit stop, shut down, come back out and turn the ignition (all lights and fuel pump are operating) hit the start switch and nothing. dead.

last sunday i played with the relays and even switched out the brake and starater relay and no good. got it to the dealer and played some more with the relays and i thought i may have swapped it to the wrong position, but it started.

rode all week with no issues. today made a stop and dead. switched relays and even hot wired the starter like the harley mechanic showed me, which was to by pass the relay issue and that did not help either. all power is on no battery issue, fuel pump working, its like the off switch is on.

any ideas

happened to a good friend of mine in tenn. last summer try tapping on the back of the starter motor... with something solid, small wrench or small mag light. if bike starts you got a bad starter. give it a shot. almost ruined his trip.

Same thing happened to me awhile back. I put star washers on the bolts that hold the starter to the inner primary (grounding point for starter) and tightened them down good. I found that they were a little loose. You can also check battery cables and grounds from the battery. If you did any handlebar work you can also make sure that you don't have any pinched wires, etc.

Also inform your dealer to check service bulletin M1231 which applies to improper starter fasteners affecting all 2007 touring models which caused some to have starter problems.

Only happens on Sunday. Hmmm. Very interesting. Other than some mystical religious cause, I would look at the starter ground since all other battery powered systems seem to be working.

yea the sunday thing freaked me too, battery is tight, tapping on starter already tried. i will look at the grounding point, but the starter seemed pretty solid.

Default new wrinkle

went out to the garage and the bike started. while i was out there i checked the snugness of the starter and it seemed good.
