Default 1550 kit dealer installed for 1600- good deal

My 99 EGC has about 48000 miles on the original unopened TC88. I'm starting to hear an upper motor rattle at about 2200 rpms that goes away as I pass 2200/2300 or so. At idle the motor sort of has a whoop whoop sound to it and a minor rattle but it runs as well as ever. I have VH basics, SE Air clnr and a dynojet carb kit with 46 main and 195 primary jet and it runs as good as my 05 EGc did but still a bit slow and heavy until it gets going. I spoke with the service Mgr today about new lifters adjustable P rods and 203 cams and he came in at about 800 bucks. Instead he offered to do a 1550 kit with 203 cams new Hd lifters and stock P rods and credit me a 100.00 since I already have the Air Clnr plus he threw in an Ez pull clutch kit to offset the heavier clutch spring pull from the upcoming 1550 kit. he took off 15% for parts and 10% for labor and gave me the job for about 1600.00 out the door. I've done ALOT of busines with them and thought this was a good deal so the kit is rdered and he tells me a 1 day turnaround plus a free dyno set up. Pretty good or what 1550 guys?? Will I be happy?? or just happier??

I did the 1550 kit on my 99 RK, but used different cams. I was very happy with the performance. I would have been even happier with the price you're getting.

As long as they are doing quality work....go ahead!

What cams did you use? I asked about 204's but was told that 203 was a better choice for low end torque.

I bought some Crane cams that were designed for hp and torque. That was an error on my part. When I bought my 2007 RK and had the 103 kit installed, I went with the SE-255 cams for torque. That was a much better choice.

Go for torque rather than hp!

So what should I put in my 99 TC 88? I'm just looking for a little more oomph, plus I have almost 50000 miles on my orig motor and am hearing tics and taps so its time to do something.

The HD stage II is nice mild build and the price is decent. Just make sure you get it in writing.

I'd just say make sure there aren't any surprises at the end. i.e. dyno time per hour costs, shop costs, extra's due to problems with parts fitting, etc. Shouldn't be, but that's a very fair price for what's being done in my opinion....
