I agree with vernh59. My past experiences with those torca clamps is that a lot of times you are better off just replacing them when you get new slip-ons.

Any reason why a small amount of hi-temp silicone couldn't be applied?
Exactly what the manufacture does when installing the mufflers; they just don’t tell you this. If you go to the plant you will see them doing so.

Now I installed my VH Ovals last week and used the clamps that came with them (they are different then the ones you get with the true duels) any ways you need to toss them in the trash and use new HD TORCA Clamps and wipe some silicon (any silicon will do) in the muffler pipe wait till sets up a little then slip them on and torque them to 45 to 60ft/lbs as book states.

Remember to re-torque after you run it a bit and they get warm.

Mike, the leak can cause the muflers to turn color.I had the same problem & my fix was this:I took off the muffler & wrapped a small amount of teflon tape around the silt end to close the slits on the mufflers where they slide on.Then I applied a small amount of permatex ultra black HI-TEMP RTV Silicone sealer to the slits & with my finger I smoothed some around the entire inside of the tip.Fixed/Sealed & no problems. Also HD recommends to replace the stock clamps when they are removed for any reason.Regards,Tom

Mike1397,

I found the torca clamps (NBC Model looks like the one) online at:

http://www.clampsinc.com/torca%20series.htm

[sm=smiley20.gif]

Only problem is that I have not located a distributor that will sell them in small quanity yet. Anyone know of one? [sm=type.gif]

NO.....go get some T-Bolt Clamps....the stock crap HD ones have a limiter between the split which will prevent full tightening....push em on past the split, use the T-Bolt Clamp right on the end of the slip on...it'll clamp the best out on the end....i also use copperseal gasket compound before i install the slip on's

torca clamps suck cause they are just like the crap HD ones (edited to clarify)...use T-Bolt clamps

ORIGINAL: CHIZ53

Throw the V&H clamps away and get the HD ones.

Permatex "Ultra Copper" High Temp RTc Silicone Gasket is rated at 700 degrees F. It seems to have worked for me.

Where do you get these clampsBryan?

Also, when you use the Copperseal, do you put itaround the header pipe then slide the muffler over it, or do you slide the muffler on then apply it around the edge/flange where the two meet?
(sorry for the dumb questions)

Thanks for the answers in advance.

I put the Copperseal inside the mufflers (inside diameter) just above the slits. On one side I also added a small amount to the header piper Outside Diameter on the end.

It worked like a charm.
