I put my V & H true duals as well as their slash slipon mufflers on my 02 RK recently. I really like them. However I have noticed a small exhaust leak at the joint where the head pipes meet the slipon's. I have thightened an repositioned the clamps but they won't seal compleatly. Should I use some muffler seal or Hi temp silicone to seal them up? If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
yes of course, get permanex high temp silicone the copper one from napa, they didnt have this at autozone hear , maybey at ours they do. make sure its the copper
also make sure when you tighten the muffler, the clamp is around those slits in the muffler. i made the mistake of pulling the clamp to far down the muffler first time. it has to be around those slits.

Ditto! I had the same problem. On the left side I couldn't get the slip on tightened and thought that maybe the duals were skinnier or something, but after repositioning I found that the slots were not under the clamp. Do try this prior to spending more money on the other fix
Ok thanks, the left one is leaking the worst. Believe me I repositioned them every way possible and covered the slips. I am just wondering if that cereamic muffler seal stuff will hold up any better than silicon. The silicon says it is good to 700 degrees. I don't know if the pipes get that hot or not.
Here's a tip from one who was driven crazy by this same issue.
1. The V&H clamps may not cut it. Get a new set of TORCA clamps from HD and position them as said above. Make sure the muffler is fully seated into the pipe and then torque the clamps down hard. I don't remember what the manual says, perhaps 60 lbs. When I was having trouble, the service manager at the HD dealer told me they use an impact wrench.
Also, the clamps are one time use only. Believe it. I didn't, and now I do.
just go buy the high temp copper silicone, you will not regret it. will fix the problem, this is its purpose it gets all the tiny openings sealed. this is mandatory in my opinion. yes jbbooks is right the clamps probably suck, but they should work fine with the silicone.
Use the high temp Permatex "Ultra Copper" silicone and new HD clamps. Coat the inside of the muffler opening, slide on, position and tighten the new HD clamps real tight, the silicone and new HD clamps will seal the leak!!!!!!!
I also have the True Duals, and although I dont have a leak, I do have a chirping type of rattle at low cruising RPM, I think it may be the heat shields but havent had a chance to look closely.I dont know if I installed those muffler clamps correctly or not, but how are you supposed to hide those long#$% bolts? Are you supposed to cut em off? They either point up or down and you can see them from behind the pipe. Anyone have a part # for the HD clamps?
Forget the messy high temp silicone. Take some beer cans and cut some rectangular shims with a pair of sharp scissors. Slide the shims between the clamps and the muffler flanges. The shims will seal up the slits mufflers and make the clamps bite down harder on the muffler flanges.
